If you’re on vacation, but thanks to the [still] crappy economy you’re forced into taking a staycation, you might have noticed that enjoying a good old time it’s harder than before. Sure, there are lots of things to do in a situation like that, pero a final de cuentas lo mas seguro es que te quedes con ganas de algo más. Don’t even trip, you can still enjoy your summer and feel like you’re in Cancun or somewhere in the Bahamas… simply plan a trip to the beach, Laguna Beach that is, and make reservations at “Eva’s- A Caribbean Kitchen” and you’ll be immediately transported to a tropical paradise.
From the Caribbean with la la love
“Eva’s” is perhaps one of the best escapades during a staycation: not only is it close, but it’s also right in front of the beach, and its one of those few places that has the ability to transport you to another place and time just by setting one foot in.
Although “Eva’s” is a medium-sized joint, it’s big enough to host a fair amount of patrons. The décor is purely Caribbean, tropical knick-knacks and masks light up the room, giving it a warm atmosphere. Además you’ll be soothed by the sound of tropical music, steel drums and all!
La comida
You’re swiftly greeted by a basket of fresh-off the oven bread. The drinks are the first thing to come out, and since you’re in the Caribbean, most specialty are fruity and have rum… no te compliques la vida and simply enjoy a glass of cold rum punch.
For starters, one of the best (and most popular) items at “Eva’s” are their crab and sweet corn cakes, which are Dungeness crab meat and sweet corn seasoned with Caribbean herbs and spices served with a yummy pineapple/ mango salsa.
Seafood is predominant on the menu, but if that’s not your forte, fortunately for you, they have other non seafood items on their menu.
The curry chicken is among the top favorites- a must for chicken aficionados. The moist and well seasoned chicken is sautéed with Madras curry, garlic, cumin, and potatoes.
Now, even if you’re not that into fish, you can’t leave “Eva’s” without trying their Pan Roasted Chilean Seabass. This dish comes with Chilean sea bass seasoned and breaded, seared in a black skillet and roasted in the oven, served of course with their specialty sauce.
Even though the prices might seem a tad steep if you’re currently in a budget, they’re not really that bad… the experience and the food are totally worth it.
Of course you can’t leave the place without having one of their signature desserts: either the banana flambé or the guava cheesecake will knock your socks off.
