With the U.S. economy seemingly going to the dumps, with harsh times coming our way and a clear recession just around the corner, sometimes it’s hard to keep our spirits up- especially for struggling students, starving artists, aspiring musicians, and everyone else in between. The once attainable “American Dream” seems far to reach now more than ever. And while it’s still possible to achieve some sort of success and accomplish the “American Dream” to a certain extent, people are putting their dreams aside and waking up to a harsh reality. Forget about the “American Dream” how about just a little vacation instead
Merde!
Talk about getting a downgrade- from trying to achieve the “American Dream”, we’re willing to settle for a decent vacation. What happens when even that is apparently impossible? Merde! We are royally screwed.
We have come to a point where a paycheck is just barely enough to pay the bills and cover a few banalities like a bag of hot cheetos or a venti mocha frappuccino every once in a while.
So, vacations are not part of the budget and they’re definitely out of the question. If you are not going to school for the rest of the summer and you already requested the days off from your chamba, you might as well take advantage of it. Staying home sounds like a drag and really not the best way to spend your vacations, but if you plan ahead you’ll be surprised at the kind of stuff you can pull out of your arse.
Instead of becoming a couch potato and moping around because you’re too broke to go to Hawaii or you can’t afford that European cruise you’ve dreamt about all year long, plan a “staycation” and get the best vacation experience without leaving the country.
“Staycation” 101
Don’t over-analyze this whole “staycation” thing because the more you give thought into it, the sillier and more ludicrous it seems.
Perhaps this summer you had planned to spend your kickback days at a hotspot in Hawaii; maybe enjoying the many European beaches, piers and ports; or perhaps you planned on going on an Asian extravaganza through China and Japan. Whatever your “original” plan was, you can sort of fake it through.
A “staycation” includes activities related to whatever destination you had planned on going to. It’s sort of like a two-week “theme party”.
You can eat just traditional food, visit museums pertaining to that particular place, doing activities that relate to that particular place, and even watching foreign movies from that part of the country.
One thing to keep in consideration while taking a “staycation” is to keep the technology communications systems to a minimum… that means you need to take it easy on the cell phone, the e-mails and definitely MySpace and other social networking sites.
So, turn off the TV, dust off the old swimwear and get ready for a helluva trip… vacationing is a state of mind, the destination is just a big plus… so enjoy, regardless of the budget.
