The iconic Mexican rock band La Barranca is preparing to dazzle its fans once again with the release of its new single, “IA,” in anticipation of the release of its next studio album.
Continuing their musical journey that began in 1994, La Barranca is set to release their second single, “IA”, from the highly anticipated album Antimateria. This album not only marks a celebration of their 30 years of uninterrupted musical career but also reaffirms their status as a reference in the Mexican rock scene. From the first songs penned by José Manuel Aguilera for their debut album El Fuego de la Noche (1996), La Barranca has been a beacon of inspiration and influence.
The new single, characterized by its powerful guitar riff and introspective lyrics, explores the fine line between reality and the virtual reality imposed by Artificial Intelligence. With a BPM of 93, “AI” stands out for its contemporary subject matter and its sound production, which includes a cinematic coda of radically transformative sound design. This piece represents the most electric side of Antimateria, standing out among the ten songs that make up the album. The song, written by José Manuel Aguilera, features a rich and varied instrumentation that includes vocals, electric guitars, bass, drums, piano, and synthesizers, and features the talented musicians José Manuel Aguilera on vocals, electric guitars, and synthesizers, Abraham Méndez on drums, Ernick Romero on bass and Yan Zaragoza on piano.
IA” was produced by La Barranca, with Eduardo Del Aguila mixing and mastering. The visualizer accompanying the release was recorded at the historic cantina Frontón 1946, located in the heart of Coyoacán, CDMX. Directed by Alex Aguilera, the piece captures the band in an intimate celebration among friends, evoking an authentic and intimate atmosphere.

La Barranca is one of the independent rock bands with the longest trajectory and recognition in Mexico. Since its foundation in 1994, La Barranca has sustained a creative production of 13 full-length albums, from El Fuego de la Noche (1997) to Entre la Niebla (2020), its most recent work. In February 2024, La Barranca was invited to participate in the posthumous tribute to writer José Agustín at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, becoming the first Mexican rock band to play at that venue.
