Union Cinema

Although Peru has a semi healthy rock scene, few bands have had success outside of Peru, with Libido being an exception, but after losing the “musical chemistry”, bassist and songwriter, Antonio Jauregui decided to go his own way and has now created a new project called, Union Cinema.

To find out more about this new project, we spoke to Antonio Jauregui via phone and here is a peak into our conversation.

When I asked Antonio how Union Cinema came about, he replied: “I was ready to make a new album with Libido, but once we got together there was no musical chemistry so I decided to go my own way and began to work on my own album.
After recording some basic tracks, I called on Antonio Santivañez, who I already knew and was very aware of his song writing abilities and guitar playing. We clicked right away and quickly wrote a few songs in English, which later we translated to Spanish.”

On the album “Sinestesia”, there are a lot of sounds that could be considered retro, but at the same time it sounds very new and fresh, to which Antonio responded: “It’s a combination of the music we grew up listening to like The Beatles and all the classic rock to The Ramones and also current bands like Daft Punk and Arctic Monkeys and we also tried to incorporate some of the Peruvian roots like the psychedelic cumbia (chicha) and we hope in the future to do even more mixing of Peruvian roots music with more Anglo sounds.

Union Cinema will be playing with Los Rabanes at the Los Globos Night Club on January 26, 2014.
