His Imperial Majesty Silverio is celebrating the official video premiere of “Suavecito”, a song that was a hit for soap opera star and cumbia diva, Laura Leon. Ms. Leon, who is also known as “La Tesorito”, is also featured in the song and video
This time around, Silverio returns to work on this classic with Academy Award nominee Nacho Vigalondo, a Spanish director, screenwriter, and actor who has won several film awards in Europe and Latin America. Vigalondo also directed Silverio’s previous video “Salon de Belleza.
The song is part of Silverio’s new EP Silverio Y La Tesorito, which is comprised of two Laura León covers and an original Silverio track and to find out more about the new EP we had the chance to chat with his His Imperial Majesty and here’s is our interview with the man himself, Silverio:
Al Borde (AB) How this new EP come about?
Silverio – Well this is more of a onetime thing, I had never done any collaboration in the past and have always worked by myself, I have often said that to put on a good show, you only need one person, and in this case, working with Laura Leon, there was such great chemistry on that first time we worked together at the Vive Latino Festival that we decided to take that chemistry into the studio and we did two of her songs, “Suavecito” and “Abusadora” and one of my songs, “Gorila”, on which she also sings.
AB- Tell us more about the Vive Latino collaboration, as it was kind of a strange combination, but at the same time, it worked very well.
Silverio – It was great, Laura Leon is actually very punk, although her music is “guapachosa”, her attitude is totally punk, she is very potent and even violent (in a musical way) on stage and it blended very well with what I normally do on stage, which is a very much “in your face” type of show.

AB – How did this chemistry work in the studio?
Silverio -I took her songs and gave them a “Silveriano” twist; there are broken dishes, lions, birds and screams and she was all for it.
AB – Tell us about the video with Laura Leon for “Suavecito”.
Silverio – The video was done very much in my style and what was wonderful is that Laura was very much into it; she had no issues going along with my particular style of making a video and she just let loose and I think the video shows that chemistry we had while working on it.
AB – After the success of this EP, do you think you will ever do something similar in the future?
Silverio – As I stated before, this is just a onetime thing for me, my music has always been based more on rock and I may use some elements of “guapachoso” music, but my take on electronic music has always come from rock, which is a lot more aggressive, but you never know, life always gives you surprises.
