It is not very common to see many girls in rock & roll, but an all girl rock band is even less common, but in Mexico, there is a band that is making heads turn, and this band is Ruido Rosa (Rosy Noise).
Ruido Rosa is made up by Alejandra Moreno-vocals, Daniela Sanchez-guitar, Carla Sariñana-bass and new member, drummer, Alicia Zepeda.
I met up with Alejandra, Daniela and Carla to talk about the band and their music and here is a little bit of what we talked about:
When I asked how Ruido Rosa came together, Carla said “Ale and I and knew each other at school and I knew Dani through a mutual friend, we all liked 70’s guitar rock and there weren’t many other girls who liked the music we liked and even less who played it.
Ale was in another band and in the band that I was in, our lead singer quit, so I recruited Ale to sing, then I called Dani, who also wanted to sing, but I told her that spot had already been taken and told her we needed a guitar player and luckily she accepted and that’s how Ruido Rosa came about.”
When I asked if it was hard for the band to be accepted as a girl band, they responded: “We began by entering contests like battle of the bands type things, and at first people thought we were going to go up there and dance, but once they saw us playing, they realized we were the real deal. Then our first drummer left and we got Mariluz, with whom we recorded our first album and we opened up for Kiss, played the Vive Latino festival and then Mariluz decided to leave. Luckily we found a great drummer who has really given us that extra punch that we needed. Her name is Alicia and she came from an all girl metal band, so she was used to working with all girls and we clicked right away.”
After listening to your music, I think the name “Ruido Rosa” really captures the concept and sound of the band, and the girls replied: “The name came from the father of one our former guitar players, at first we didn’t like the name and even changed it several times, but once we realized that people identified with the name, we decided to leave it.”
If you like any of the classic 70’s guitar or early heavy metal bands, you have to listen to Ruido Rosa and their music can be found on I-tunes and Spotify.
