DJ playing at Pacific Festival The Dunes

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, the sun rose and it placed a spotlight on the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort as it hosted this year’s Pacific Festival: The Dunes.

The event welcomed their guests to enjoy live music, while having a full typical beach day of swimming, paddle boarding, lounging, and just taking in the sun. Entering the beautiful beachfront setup, it promised to be a new and fresh entertainment experience.

Bringing an abundance of electronic music, this year’s festival introduced two additional stages to grant concertgoers the ultimate outdoor summer festival vibe.

The Main Stage hosted acts geared towards rock, alternative, and electro pop. Things got started with Avid Dancer, Painted Palms, and Cherry Glazerr, who added to a loungey vibe with their surf-rock, dream and psych-pop. DeLux got the crowd dancing with their electronic disco. Australian Miami Horror brought their indietronica sounds, while Los Angeles based duo Poolside, brought their retro acid synth and their groovy daytime disco. And headliner Brooklyn synth-pop Holy Ghost closed the stage.

A short walk to the second stage with a bar in between gave the crowd a pit stop for some refreshments.

Straight out of LA/Silverlake, the newly introduced A Club Called Rhonda Stage hit you more with a disco-jungle vibe with deep house and tropical funk. Under a sheer nude tent and luau themed décor surrounded the smaller stage, Nancy Whang, Goddollars, and Paradise fed the early birds their tunes. While Yolanda Be Cool, Sam Sparro, and Plastic Plates catered some electro dance music. Bag Raiders and Moon Boots shut down this stage with their funky nu-disco beats.

And the third new VIP stage allowed its private guests to enjoy premium liquor and brew with special entertainment by Bones, Overjoy, Cassette, Heidi, Cooper Saver, Graff, and Kedd Cook.

Another short stroll along the bridge served a full picturesque view and led you to the opposite side of this beautiful location for some delicious selection of food trucks. The stages provided a variety of diversity and musical selection, yet they complemented each other. The beautiful sun kissed crowd stomped their feet in the sand and danced the day away through sunset.

This year, Red Bull Sound Select, KCRW, AQUAHydrate, Hyatt Regency, and Newport Beach all teamed up to benefit The Surfrider Foundation, by donating $1 from every ticket sold to help preserve our ocean and continue their beachside experience for years to come.
