In anticipation of the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards taking place on February 10, 2013 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, we’re digging into our vault to dust off a video presentation of one of this year’s nominees. Up for “Best Latin Rock Urban or Alternative Album” and marking the first GRAMMY nomination of her career, we’re celebrating the talented Carla Morrison.
The recognition is for the songstress’ “Déjenme Llorar” 2012 release. Also nominated in the same category are “Campo” from Campo, “Imaginaries” from Quetzal, “Sistema Bomb” from Electro-Jarocho, and “La Bala” from Ana Tijoux.
Uniquely so, “Déjenme Llorar” was recorded in Morrison’s apartment using household materials, like jugs of water, pots and pans. Producers Andres Landon and Juan Manuel Torreblanca helped shape the album, which follows the singer’s ethereal vocals and melodic lullabies.
We were fortune to have Carla Morrison as part of our femme fatale-themed Al Borde Acoustic Sessions back in 2010 where she opened for headliner Pilar Diaz. But it was in 2009 that we first had her part of the showcase. That presentation, however, was with her former band Babaluca. Check out the videos of both performances below.
