L.A.’s ska band Roncovacoco has plenty to look forward to in the next few months. After the release of their first official album, Presenta…, late last year, the band begins the New Year by doing a split album with Xperimento from Miami and Drakos from Chile.

According to Alex Villanueva, lead singer and founder of the Angeleno band, the collaboration will include five songs from each band plus a track featuring the three bands together. “We all have our own different styles so it’ll be interesting to see how the last song turns out,” said Villanueva. “I’ll produce our songs with the help of Christian Robles, who has worked as a sound engineer with La Ley, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Moenia, and the late Jenni Rivera.”

Aside from the glory of collaborating with other artists and adding a second release to their trajectory, the split album also serves as a great marketing tool for Roncovacoco, Xperimento, and Drakos. “Since each band will release the cd in their home turf, it will expose their fans to the music of the other two bands,” said Villanueva.
For Roncovacoco, the release will open doors for them to play in the east coast as well as in Latin America, both of which are markets the band is yet to consume. Simultaneously through the collaboration, Xperimento’s Latin reggae urban soul and Drakos ska beats will be exposed to Roncovacoco’s faithful L.A. following.
There is also talk about a mini tour that will bring the Miami and Chilean ska bands to L.A. in support of the album, which will be released in March. The tour itself is being worked for April 2013.
