Two years after he made his debut, Brit singer-songwriter Mika is finally ready to drop the follow up to his award winning first album “Life In Cartoon Motion”. If you were expecting Mike to go in a different direction, mejor agarra una silla y espera sentado… cuz he ain’t going anywhere. Mika is as quirky and “out-there” as he was when he first stepped into the music scene. For his second album, “The Boy Who Knew Too Much”, Mika fiercely skips over the much feared sophomore slump and delivers an album that will revive your love for Freddie Mercury, musicals, and all things old school. La neta que no pudo haber lanzado un mejor follow-up album ni mandado a hacer. The thing with Mika’s music is that you just have to cut all your higher-than-thou attitude and simply try to be musically open… even if you feel your brains might fall out.
It’s hard to put Mika in a certain genre… although he employs many pop elements, he’s not 100% pure pop, as he also borrows bits and pieces from old school rock, powerpop, jazz, dance, and even nursery rhymes.
While “The Boy Who Knew Too Much” follows pretty much the same formula used for “Life In Cartoon Motion”, Mika is clever enough to take things to the next level, both musically and lyrically, presenting a more mature album without sacrificing its freshness and ultimate fierceness.
This might as well just be the perfect “Fall” album, as it has its happy-go-lucky and sunny jams as well as its rainiy-days and gloomy songs… or perhaps its just a bit of a bipolar album… either way you look at it, Mika’s “The Boy Who Knew Too Much” is definitely an album to watch out y tener bien en consideración. Even if you find it a little hard to digest at the beginning, don’t be scared to press the replay button… it’s definitely a grower!
