Rock fans cast their votes and titled L.A. local rock band, FATIMA, as “Fan Favorito”. The music aficionados had the opportunity to decide which out of numerous bands had them rocking out the hardest as part of MTV Tr3s San Diego’s first annual Latin Battle of the Bands competition.
The battle of the bands showdown was judged in part by a panel of industry professionals who rated the bands on their stage presence, originality and songwriting. The other half of the competition allowed for fans to vote for their favorite band via the event’s online social network where according to FATIMA, more than 10,000 votes landed them the stellar title of “Fan Favorito”. “Thank you to everyone who voted for us non-stop,” commented the band through a My Space blog. “We never ask you for anything but the day we did, everyone came out to vote!” As a result of that massive support, FATIMA returned to L.A. with the coveted title and according to the band, “a sweet acoustic Taylor guitar”. The Sand Diego performance marked the Angelino bands’ third gig in the good old SD and is part of the bands objective to building a stronger fan base in that area.
The grand prize however, went to rockers “Koñorteño”, who won the judges over with their accordion-infused rock tunes.“[Our performance] was very cool even though we didn’t take many people to support us,” states Koñorteño. “Even the gringos walking by stopped to watch the bands and cheer!” And as far as sharing the stage once again with FATIMA, Koñorteño gives the band props for having rocked the stage and for being one of the few bands that “stood out from the bunch”.
Currently in “stocked” mood, according to their My Space profile, FATIMA is packing their bags for yet another important event. Just around the corner, the rock quartet will be kicking off their “A Story to Tell Tour” with long-time comrades Kill Aniston and Misterequis at The Fox Theater in Salinas, California. The tour comes in time to support the band’s long-anticipated “Escuchame” album, which was most recently released in the Mexican republic.
