lily allen it's not me it's youDespués de muchos dimes y diretes and after being pushed back a gazillion times, Lily Allen’s sophomore album has finally seen the light.  Even though it was supposed to be named “Stuck On the Naughty Step”, annoyed by the ever-changing album release date, spunky Allen got over that album name simply because she lived too long with it and instead re-named the album “It’s Not Me, It’s You”.  The aptly titled second album of this Brit chick brings more to the table than what many bargained for.  It has more of the Lily Allen badassness, attitude and bluntness that captivated many at the beginning of her career, but also she takes things up a notch and then some more. Absolutamente nadie se salva de Lily Allen… not our now ex-president, not her dad, and not even God himself.

It’s Not Me, It’s You

Just like in her debut album, Lily Allen proves herself as a smartass, bratty and in-your-face lyricist.  After all, she began to achieve fame thanks to her MySpace blog rants, so in a way she kinda is the voice of a generation… kinda.

For “It’s Not Me, It’s You”, Lily Allen ditched Mark Ronson and went on a different musical path, opting for a more electronic, dance/pop sound.

lily allen it's not me it's youWhile she switched gears musically speaking, everything else remains 100% Lily Allen.  Upbeat music and uplifting beats go well hand in hand with less than sunny, pissy and even depressive lyrics. The juxtaposition and contradiction of both sides of the emotional spectrum showcase Lily Allen’s not-so-raw talent and her possible bipolar-ism.

Esta chava no tiene pelos en la lengua and is not afraid of speaking her mind out, even if it means pissing off everyone coming her way and even some of her fans.

She tackles drug addiction, dealing with fame, coming of age, amor, desamor, her absent dad, more drugs, finding the ideal man but having to dump him because the poor guy sufre de eyaculación precoz… this album even has an “are you there God? It’s me Lily song”.

“It’s Not Me, It’s You” took a couple of years to finally see the light but the wait was well worth the lingering.  When listening to this album you have to remember that it’s POP you’re listening to, so don’t take it too serious and just enjoy…
