Back in December 2008 when Lady Sovereign unexpectedly gave away unlimited free download of the new song “I Got You Dancing” as an early Christmas present, sacó a todos de onda. Not only because of the bold move of giving away for free the first single for her upcoming album, but also because of the new sound and later on new image that she unveiled for the upcoming project simply titled “Jigsaw”. If you thought “I Got You Dancing” was an indication of where S-O-V was musically going, you thought wrong… nobody saw this one coming. Taking hints from Kanye and as a way of sticking it up to big label honchos, Lady Sovereign keeps things spunky and filled with attitude, bringing with her loads of synths, catchy hooks, intoxicating beats, Auto-Tune and even some singing… something relatively new for the pint-sized rapper.
Jigsaw
With only ten tracks, Lady Sovereign keeps things short and sweet on “Jigsaw”… definitivamente te dejará con ganas de más.
From beginning ‘til end “Jigsaw” is a well rounded and superbly produced album. Many haters and nay-sayers will rant about S-O-V selling out, but truth of the matter is that behind the glistening jams, Lady Sovereign’s style and spunk remain untouched.
While “Jigsaw” undeniably has more pop elements than her previous album “Public Warning”, the vertically challenged rapper’s swag is intact.
Lady Sovereign keeps the ball rolling throughout the album, there’s truly never a dull moment in “Jigsaw”… surely to become the ’09 hip-hop album du jour.
