She hones the stage like few artists do. Her presence alone brings a venue’s foot traffic to a stop. She’s the girl with the pink guitar: ‘ye old faithful that has accompanied the Mexican singer since her early days, perhaps even as early as Lotofire.
It’s the moment that her LA fans have been waiting for since her last visit to the area. Since then, Ely Guerra has been extremely busy. Her Hombre Invisible was nominated for “Best Alternative Album” and “Best Recording Package” in the 11th annual Latin Grammy Awards, it also reached #1 spot in iTunes Mexico. She’s running her own label now, Homey Company, through which Hombre Invisible was produced, and she also collaborated in the Bi Mexicano: Nuestros Clásicos Hechos Rock album which offers new takes on classic Mexican songs and includes rock-en-tu-idioma greats Enrique Bunbury, Jaguares, Aterciopelados, Kinky, Jumbo, Sussie 4, Natalia Lafourcade, Hello Seahorse!, LeBaron, Yo Camaleón and Sr. Flavio.
But all that hustle was put aside for one night. On September 29th, Ely and band, Los Ely’s, focused only on the present moment. Here, an image slideshow of Ely Guerra and Hernan Hecht (drums), Ezequiel Jaime (bass), Nicolas Santella (keyboards), and Demian Galvez (guitar) bringing LA’s Roxy Theatre to a full stop with an encore of her classic hits as well as the new material that has the Mexican singer/songwriter on the top of everyone’s radar.
