In December of 2012, Devendra Banhart announced he would release a new album in 2013. Other than the promise of new material for the upcoming spring, his label, Nonesuch, made no other details. That was until this past Wednesday when “Für Hildegard von Bingen”, the album’s first single, was released.
Recorded in L.A. with vintage and borrowed instruments of all kinds, Mala, out March 12, was co-produced with his long-time collaborator and band mate, guitarist Noah Georgeson. It is the eight album in the renowned extrovert and visual artist’s library.
