Choc Quib Town Latin Grammy nomineesAfro-Colombian hip hop trio Choc Quib Town hails from Colombia with a swagger that screams to be noticed. Their MC flows are presented by Tostao, Goyo, and Slow in addition to a full backing band that supports its live shows. The group fuses hip hop, electronica, and funk with traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms. And according to Tostao, their lyrics narrate a Colombia that does not appear in the mass media.

Their most recent work, Oro (Nacional Records, 2009) served as the bands debut on US terrain with singles such as “De Donde Vengo Yo” and “Somos Pacifico” putting the trio on the radar of key members of the Latin alternative community. “De Donde Vengo Yo”  is currently nominated for a 2010 Latin Grammy award sharing in the category of  “Best Alternative Song” with Hello Seahorse’s “Criminal”, Ceci Bastida’s “Cuando Vuelvas a Caer”, El Cuarteto de Nos’ “El Hijo de Hernandez” and Sig Rigga’s “Resistencia Indigena”.

We made our way to speak with the band only hours before the Latin Grammy awards show to talk about their nomination and their scheduled live performance of their nominated single. Glue an ear to the exclusive interview here where Tostao, Goyo, and Slow share with you their expectations for tonight’s ceremony, their superstitious rituals which they hope will help them take the award to Colombia, and about how the road has been from their small town of Choco to them performing live on the Latin Grammy stage.
