The highly anticipated final album from Nortec Collective Presents Bostich+Fussible, Motel Baja – debuted #1 on the iTunes charts solely based on digital pre-sales, a week before the CD and vinyl hit stores on the album’s September 16th release date, which was also Mexican Independence Day.
Motel Baja is the highly anticipated follow-up to Tijuana Sound Machine and Bulevar 2000, the first two albums in the “Border Trilogy,” which were both nominated for Grammy and Latin Grammy’s. “After this, Nortec is done,” explains Fussible. “There will be no more Nortec. This is the last album”
Rolling Stone recently premiered the title track from “Motel Baja” which features a special guest appearance from Tom Tom Club (Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads). The album also features collaborations with Atom (Señor Coconut), Wolfgang Flur (Kraftwerk), Kylee Swenson (Loquat) and composer Alberto Nuñez Palacio.
The album’s first single “Camino Verde” previously premiered at Billboard. Additional preview coverage has already come from DJ Mag, The Onion’s AV/Club and Vibe. Bostich+Fussible will appear on NPR’s All Things Considered next week to discuss the new album.
In the late 90s, Nortec Collective emerged from a burgeoning electronic scene in Tijuana, and invented a new style of music they called Nortec – a fusion of Norteño (“from the North”) and Techno.
Documenting the collision between electronic music characterized by heavy dance beats and traditional forms of Mexican music performed with live instrumentation, Nortec Collective paved the way for a new generation of producers and DJs that have reinvented electronic music from a global perspective.
Bostich (Ramón Amezcua) and Fussible (Pepe Mogt) are two of the original co-founders of Nortec Collective, and have continued to push the envelope with an explosive live show that has toured extensively across the globe.
Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich+Fussible will perform at the inaugural Supersonico Festival in Los Angeles on October 11th with Calle 13, Café Tacvba and more.
