This year’s summer anthem comes packaged in red, black and negative space. It comes buffered by 13 other tracks that gave this title holder a good run for what it’s worth. But single-handedly, the Pinker Tones’ “Estirando el Sol” takes the title. It’s the first single off the Barcelona-bred duo’s latest album, Modular, which was released just in time for the editorial gathering of summer playlist must-adds. Professor Manso and Mister Furia whom during their Park SummerStage performance in the annual Latin Alternative Music Conference debuted their full-band live show, reinvent their trademarked 2-man DJ production to one where live drum beats outshine those of a computer-engineered loop.
Of the track, Mister Furia insists that its lyrics of beachside lounging were inspired by his leisure time in the Mediterranean where all of his senses were enlivened. “I realized that in that position all my senses worked a mile a minute: smell, touch, sight, hearing and thinking,” he states “and I decided to write about what my senses felt– a jolt of guitar pop full of magic realism.”
You can check out that “jolt of guitar pop” in the music video for “Estirando el Sol” where Manso, Mister Furia and their new band recruits make 80’s beach chairs look mod chic. Take a look.
