The longest running major “street” race held on the North American continent returns to the city of Long Beach, CA this weekend. And to celebrate, the 38th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach has enlisted the talent of Mexican pop group Belanova as the headliner of Tecate Light Fiesta Friday, an outdoor musical performance that takes place following the last race of the day. In past years, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach has booked Mexican rock bands El Tri, Fobia, and Moderatto for its Fiesta Friday events as well.
And on Saturday night after the races, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will take the same stage during the Tecate Light Rock-N-Roar concert. Both Friday and Saturday evening concerts will take place at the Convention Center outdoor stage at 6:30 p.m. Ticket holders of the various racing events will be able to enjoy the concerts for free, and fans wanting to enjoy only the concerts will need to purchase a $26 General Admission ticket for the day in which the concert will be held.
During the racing weekend itself, adults 21 and older will be able to enjoy Tecate and Tecate Light at “Pit Stop Pubs”, lounges, sports bars and cantinas located throughout the race circuit and inside the Lifestyle Expo, and pose for pictures as racing champions with the Chicas Tecate Light brand ambassadors.
Although the concert series and “Pit Stop Pubs” are exclusive to a 21 and over crowd, the Long Beach Grand Prix also offers family-friendly activities as well, such as the Family Fun Zone, which features BMX and skateboarding exhibitions, racecar displays, video games and simulators. Also, kids from 4-8 years of age can try turning “hot laps” in electric-powered cars at the KidRacer area.
Another popular attraction to the event is the celebrity race where public figures get behind the wheels to drive the historic 10-lap, 1.97-mile street circuit through the streets of downtown Long Beach, CA. This year, Mexican actress Kate del Castillo and former UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez are amongst the confirmed list of film, television, music, sports and fashion figures that will participate in the events “Celebrity Race”. The race will take place on Saturday, April 14.
Ticket prices for the 38th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach range from $26 for a General Admission ticket to $130 for a three-day ticket that includes Sat./Sun. reserved seating in grandstand upper levels. Other packages are available.
