On May 11 and like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Mikel Erentxun rose to the stage of 333 Live in Los Angeles. Effortlessly, the influential rock musician turned the evening into a celebration of his life and music, which transcends from his early days as member of 80’s rock group Duncan Dhu to his recent solo work.
Looking relaxed and ready to rock, Erentxun showed no signs of having suffered heart complications just a few months ago. With a basic set-up of drums, bass, and guitars, Erentxun hits like “Contracorriente” and “A Un Minuto De Ti” took on a new dimension in the hands of the newly invigorated musician.
With this set-up, Erentxun and his band explored classics like The Smith’s “There is a Light That Never Goes Out (Esta Luz Nunca Se Apagara)”, which began with the singer playing solo guitar before the band joined to take the song to all its fury.
Other notable songs played on this great night of music was the Duncan Dhu rock anthem “En Algun Lugar”, along with Mikel’s solo hits like “Cartas De Amor” and “Suelta Las Riendas De Mi Corazon”.
If last Saturday night is any indication of what is to come from this “new man”—as Erentxun referred to himself mid show, the upcoming Duncan Dhu reunion is definitely something to look forward to.
