Maskatesta – Celebrated in Style at the HOB

By | December 12, 2013

Last Sunday night, Maskatesta celebrated the release of their most recent release, Mi Vida En Otro Lado, at the House of Blues in Anaheim and the fans made sure the band will remember their first headlining show in southern California, as they showed up ready to rock and skank the night away.

To help out in the festivities, Maskatesta brought along some friends from the local ska scene like Simbala, Raskahuele and Chencha Berrinches who put on strong sets that got the people dancing and skanking from early in the evening.

Maskatesta is a band that has been laying the ground work in the United States for quite some time by playing local ska festivals like Skawars or opening up for bands like Inspector and others and their hard work is starting to pay off as they are starting to establish themselves on this side of the border and their following keeps increasing with every concert.

Maskatesta is definitely a band that should be experienced live as they are a band that really connects with the audience with their energy and charisma. Lead singer Isra Vilmar truly knows how to lead his band and knows how to work the crowd, but the band as a whole is also able to connect with the audience in a way that the energy flows back and forth between the band on stage and audience.

Although the focus of the night was the new album, Maskatesta played songs from their entire 10 year career and after a short intro, the band got things going with “Hace Tanto Tiempo” followed by their current single “Fiesta Ska” and other hits like “Tu Que Pediras”, “Solo Un Minuto” and “Chica Yeye” also made it on the show, but the surprise of the night was the special appearance by ska scene legend Chris Murray on The Specials cover “Gangsters”.

After the show, the band came out to hang out with the fans and sign autographs and take pictures.
