Maskatesta, the Mexico City Ska band will be presenting their newest release, “Mi Vida En Otro Lado” at the House of Blues in Anaheim this coming Sunday night.
Helping out in the celebration for the release of this new cd will be local ska veterans, Chencha Berrinches, Raskahuele and Simbala who will get the crowd warmed up for Maskatesta.
Maskatesta has slowly but surely made an imprint among the fervent ska community in the U.S. and especially here in L.A. where they have had some phenomenal performances in the last year or so.
Last December, Maskatesta opened up for Inspector at the Constellation Rom in Santa Ana and the Troubadour in Hollywood and the audiences went crazy over the band and a couple of months later at the annual Ska Wars festival in South Central L.A. Maskatesta gave one of the best performances of the festival.
To find out more about the band’s new album and their current tour, we spoke to one of the founders of the band, Deals Olan.
Tell us about the new album, “Mi Vida En Otro Lado”.
“This is our fourth album and we had the fortune of having contributions from people like Mario Siperman from Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Mariano Goldenstein from Sombrero Club and we are very happy with the results and the warm reception it has received from the fans and critics.”
What can you tell us about the evolution of the band in these last 10 years and how is that represented on this new album?
“I think this is a culmination of the work we’ve done and the experiences we have acquired during this time we have been together. There’s a little bit of everything like the ska sound that our fans expect to hear, but we have also gone back a little into the history of ska and have come up with some rocksteady, two tone, some serious lyrics and also some good party music.”
Maskatesta recently opened up for Los Fabulosos Cadillacs in Mexico, how was that experience?
It was an incredible night, we grew up listening to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and we are very much influenced by them, so it was like a dream come true for us, I think we are still on cloud 9”
How do you feel about playing with local bands like Chencha Berrinches or Raskahuele?
Ever since our first visits to L.A. we became friends with all these local bands and it is very gratifying being able to play with them, especially now that we are trying to have a bigger presence on this side of the border”
