Maria Fatal

At Maria Fatal ’s reunion concert at the House of Blues last Thursday night, some people may have been somewhat nostalgic and some may have wanted to relive that past, but one thing was for certain, everyone was ready to rock, and the members of Maria Fatal rose to the occasion and gave a memorable performance.

The reunion of one of the pioneers of the L.A. Spanish rock scene, Maria Fatal, was more than just another concert, and as the crowd got larger and larger, one could see some old faces from the beginnings of the band; there were members of other bands like Maria Fatal ’s contemporaries, Las 15 Letras, younger bands like Wonderfox and many other familiar faces from the L.A. music scene, but what was most amazing was the many younger faces in the crowd, which goes to show that the legacy Maria Fatal is still being written, even though they had not played together for many years and it has been even longer since they last released an album.

Looking more like your high school math teacher than a rocker, lead singer Fernando Ramirez thanked the crowd and even joked about having a few extra pounds but that didn’t stop him or the rest of the band from giving their all and the crowd did their part by singing along dancing and even moshing.

Although the band played songs from their different albums and even a song that was to be part of a never released album, the songs from their debut, self titled album, Maria Fatal, were definitely among the crowd favorites.

Songs like “La Soga” and “El Zombi Macario, definitely lifted the energy to a whole new level and the mosh pit got even larger and there were also very special moments in which the band and the audience became one, as on “Portate Mal” when the whole place sang along with the band and the same happened with the closing song, “Languida”
