Los Amantes De Lola Sold Out at Torino Lounge

By | January 30, 2014

I remember going to see Los Amantes de Lola at the Hollywood Palace back in 1996, and there were maybe 100 people at the most

and last week, Los Amantes De Lola played two shows at the Torino Lounge with Saturday night being a sellout, which goes to show that the talent and the quality of their music has persevered and is probably more popular today than when they were one of the leaders of the Mexican “rock en español” movement.

At the sold out Torino Lounge on Saturday night, for the opening number, Los Amantes de Lola took the stage minus their lead singer Kazz, instead, the singer was Clive Farrington from English 80’s pop synth band, When in Rome, who played When in Rome’s biggest hit, “The Promise”, for which the crowd quickly joined in singing along.

Kazz took the stage and after apologizing for having to sit on a chair behind his keyboards because of an injury, the hit parade began. Songs like “Natalia”, “Don Juan”, “A Solas” and many others began to fill the ears of the cramped up sold out crowd.

Band founders, lead singer Kazz and guitarist Gasú, often joked among themselves and with the crowd in between songs; which made it feel like an informal affair, it almost felt like they were in one’s living room, but once the music started, the passion and energy, even with Kazz sitting down, came through loud a clear and it once again proves that good music will always triumph over the latest flavor of the month musical buzz.

To end this magical night, Los Amantes de Lola brought the house down with their biggest hits, “Beber  De Tu Sangre” and the Spanish rock classic, “Mamá”, but that would not be all, as an encore, Kazz and Gasú played a passionate version of the Mexican classic, “No Volvere”, in which all present sang at the top of their lungs.

We have to give props to Torino Lounge for not only supporting Spanish rock, but also the local bands, as they have set up two nights a week dedicated to Spanish rock music on Thursdays and Saturdays.
