La castañeda in concert

La Castañeda, one of the most innovative and creative rock bands to ever come of Mexico, is getting ready to hit the road in the U.S. in what has been called “Tour Californias.” La Castañeda began the tour in Mexicali and Tijuana and played two Southern California shows, the first one was at Los Globos Night Club and the other was at The Observatory in Anaheim.

To find out more about the tour, and the band’s future plans, lead singer, Salvador Moreno answered some questions for us. And here is a little bit of what we talked about:

When Salvador was asked what they think about so many younger people discovering their music, he said: “It is surprising to see how far our music continues to reach, and it is obvious that the young fans are looking for more than what is being offered by radio and TV, so they go out on their own to search for something they can relate to and for us it is a continuous renovation of our older songs as it feels as if the songs are being re-created by the new generation of fans.”

When so many other bands break up after only a short time, what has kept La Castañeda together for more than 20 years?

La Castañeda have taken breaks and allowed for changes that have been necessary and that has given us the opportunity to grow and to reinvent ourselves, but always keeping the original essence of the band and thus when we come back to the band, we all feel refreshed and with new ideas.”

The last album, ‘Doble Llama’, came out three years ago; do you have plans for a new album in the near future?

Yes, first we will have a compilation of the last two albums, ‘Llama Doble’ and ‘Doble Llama’, which will include bonus tracks.  We also have plans for a commemorative package for our 25 year anniversary which includes not only the music but also videos, a lyrics book and a book of images throughout our history.

What can the fans expect of the shows on this tour of the U.S.?

We wanted to play some of the places that have been part of the history of La Castañeda, and we also want to show our fans how we have evolved with some of the new material, but of course, we will also play some of our hits and we hope that in the near future we can come back to play a more complete and elaborate show.
