Unlike many bands that rely on nostalgia and basically repeating themselves over and over without taking any musical risks like Maná, La Castañeda is a band that has continued to explore new musical territories and reinventing itself by putting out new material and re-working their older hits instead of doing the often boring greatest hits album.

Although La Castañeda’s concert was designed to promote their new album Interno Acústico, the band actually plugged in their electric instruments but they played the new versions of their hits which make up this new album which finds them reworking the songs into bluesy, jazzy versions.

With most of the fans already familiar with the new album, they welcomed the new versions and danced and sang along to songs like “Noches de tu Piel”, “Lucrecia Sola”, and “La Dosis”. For the occasional or less open minded fans, the band still gave a healthy dosage of other hits which were played in their usual version like “La Guera”, “Misteriosa” and others.

With Salvador Moreno on vocals, Oswaldo de León on guitar, Omar de León on keyboards, Felipe Maldonado on drums and Jose Luis Escamilla (Pepo) on bass, the band were having a great time on stage as they were able to stretch out and take liberties playing these new versions of the old familiar songs and making Salvador’s voice take an even bigger role as he also used his voice as a musical instrument to blend in well in this updated versions.

The atmosphere at the show, overall was a little more relaxed than their usual shows, perhaps because people were actually listening to these new versions of the songs, but towards the end some fans could not stand it any longer and the slam dancing finally broke into action as the momentum kept growing with each song.
