Kinky Concierto Los Angeles

In a sort of homecoming, the Monterrey, Mexico band and long time residents of Los Angeles, Kinky celebrated the release of their new album, Kinky MTV Unplugged in front of excited capacity crowds at both the House of Blues in Anaheim and the Echoplex in Los Angeles.

The Kinky MTV Unplugged album features a superstar line-up of guests and new versions of their classic hits; guests include Carla Morrison on “¿A Dónde Van los Muertos?”, La Mala Rodríguez, on “Negro Dia”, Banda Los Recoditos on  “Bien Pedo, Bien Loco” and Voz de Mando and Beto Zapata (Grupo Pesado) on “Para Poder Llegar a Ti”.

At the House of Blues in Anaheim, from the opening chords of the first song of their set, “Despues del After”, Gil Cerezo (lead vocals), Carlos Chairez (guitar & Keyboards), Omar Gongora (drums), Ulises Lozano (keyboards) and bassist Cesar Pliego went into overdrive with an energetic audio and visual attack kept the audience jumping, dancing and singing along through the whole show.

Dressed in his traditional cowboy hat and boots, bassist Cesar Pliego strutted all over the stage with some type of animal magnetism that definitely drove the ladies wild as the celebrated his every move, while singer Gil Cerezo held his own on the sex appeal department as he led the band through songs like “Alma de Neón”, “Negro Día”, “Do U Like It?”,”Cornman” and “Soun Tha Mi Primer Amor” amongst others.

For this mini-tour promoting the release of the album, which also included stops in San Francisco and Santa Cruz, Kinky dedicated a small portion of the show to these new versions of their classic songs and towards the end of the show, the band strapped on acoustic guitars including a stand up bass on songs like “Una Linea De Luz”, “Huracán”, “Para Poder Llegar a Ti”, “Yo Soy Lo Peor” and “¿A Dónde Van los Muertos?”.

After the unplugged portion of the show, the band came back to the stage to close out the night with “Sister Twisted” and probably the highest point of the evening with their version of Wall of Voodoo’s “Mexican Radio” and their mega hit “Mas”, which left the audience aching for more.
