The Skanking Reggae Fest is back! Returning for its 6th edition, the lineup promises bigger, better and new concepts. For the first time, Goldenvoice (Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival) will be presenting and supporting the festival which will be held at the beautiful Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 20th, 2016.

During the successful five previous years, it has solidified the Latin ska and reggae scene. It has brought dozens of ska, punk and reggae groups from all over Latin America since its debut at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena in 2010. Another first for the event will be to internationally extend and include ska and reggae groups in English.

skanking-reggae-festival-2016-poster-1Adrian Antonio Gonzalez, owner of iHomi and Bolocho and founder of the growing Skanking Reggae Fest comments: “Since the first edition of the festival, we noticed that there is a high demand in the Los Angeles region for ska and reggae bands that are of quality from Latin America and Southern California. This year we look forward to working with American bands that sing in English to prove that ska is much bigger and more massive than a local movement and that there can be unity regardless of the language spoken.”

This year’s all ages event will bring big hitters Reel Big Fish (Long Beach, ska/punk, early 1990s), Panteon Rococo (Mexico, ska, mid 1990s), Skatalites (originated in Jamaica, ska, dating back to the 1960s), El Gran Silencio (Mexico, reggae/rock, early 1990s), Voodoo Glow Skulls (Riverside, ska, late 1980s), Inspector (Mexico, ska/reggae 1990s), Raskahuele (Los Angeles, Latin ska/reggae, mid 2000s), 8 Kalacas (Orange County, ska, early 2000s) the Dub Club DJs and more bands to be announced.

Isaac Safdeye, festival co-promoter of Goldenvoice mentions: “We wanted to get involved to be able to give a bigger platform to the talent of this genre: both the established bands and the new generation. We see that there is a need to promote and support the movement in order to help develop this scene that is looking for the right space to grow. The concept of making a bilingual show is a pioneering step towards the future of the music industry in this country.”
