Dante Spinetta and Emmanuel Horvilleur, better known as Illya Kuryaki and The Valderramas, have returned after a 10 year hiatus in which both artist took on solo careers.
Their new album “Chances” has received 6 Latin Grammy Nominations, which includes, “Best Urban Performance”, “Best Alternative Album”, “Best Alternative Song” for their song “Monta El Trueno”, “Best Urban Song” for “Ula Ula”, “Best Video, short version”, and “Producer Of The Year” for Rafa Arcaute.
We spoke with Emmanuel about his successful year and current nominations. Here is a sneak peak:
How do you feel about the six Grammy nominations?
“We received several nominations for the “Carlos Gardel Award” which is the equivalent of the Grammys in Argentina, so we had some anticipation about it, but we never could’ve imagined that it would be six nominations. This is a record, which was made with love, hard work and lot of thinking went into it, so it is very gratifying and rewarding to be recognized for such an important award”
After having been apart for 10 years, when you were in the studio, did you feel you were working on something this special?
After 10 years of both of us doing our thing, we began to talk about recreating the old sounds and we were in the studio for about a year in which many things happened, like the death of Dante’s father (Luis Alberto Spinetta) which brought us closer together so this album has a lot of emotions in it and it is a reflection of what we have experienced.”
After the success of this album are there plans for new music?
At this point, we don’t know yet, we are working on a DVD of one of our shows at “Luna Park Stadium” which is Argentina’s version of Madison Square Garden, so that would be our next step, but beyond that, we have no other plans at this time.”
You have toured all over Latin America, are there any plans to tour the U.S.?
We would love it, we had a great time when we toured the U.S. as part of the Watcha Tour back in the 90’s, we have a great band that could play on any stage in the world, so we would love to tour the U.S. again if the opportunity arises.
