Gaby Moreno

After being awarded the Latin Grammy for “Best New Artist”, Gaby Moreno will bring her “Postales” Tour to the historic Troubadour this coming Saturday, December 7th.

Since the release of “Postales“, Gaby’s fourth album, back in September 2012, Gaby and her band have been on the road playing throughout the U.S., Latin America and Europe, but without a doubt, a pivotal point in Gaby Moreno’s career, was having the opportunity to sing a duet on the song “Fuiste” with her compatriot from Guatemala, Ricardo Arjona and being his special guest on his Metamorfosis Tour which took the duo through the most important cities in the U.S. and Latin America.

“Postales” is an album with a very fresh and organic sound which perfectly captures the passion and soul of Gaby’s lyrics and sentiments for love and her memories of her beloved Guatemala.   On “Postales”, one can also hear the influences that have shaped Gaby’s sound and those influences go from the blues, rock, country, jazz and even pop, but a very sophisticated pop.

At 17 years old, Gaby left her native Guatemala and moved to Los Angeles with the hopes of making it in the music business, but like most artists, she struggled to get her foot in the door, and every time she seemed to be getting somewhere with a record deal, something would happen and the record company was gobbled up by another, or there were management changes, and the deals would fall through.  Finally, after many disappointments, in 2008, her first album, “Still The Unknown” was released to a great reception by indie fans and critics. In 2010, a Christmas EP called “A Good Old Christmastime” came out and in 2011, her third production, “Illustrated Song” was released and reached number one in the I-tunes and Amazon Latino sales charts.

According to Gaby’s official website’s bio, one of the turning points for Gaby’s musical upbringing was during a visit to New York when she was only 13 where “…she experienced one of the biggest shakes of her life. On a family vacation, walking down the streets of Times Square in New York, she stopped and her attention was taken away by the intense voice of an African-American woman in a rhythm and style that was completely new to her. She just waited for the break to ask the woman: What are you singing?
‘It’s the Blues, Honey’, she answered.”

Gaby will be bringing her love for the blues, jazz and rock to the Troubadour this Saturday and accompanying her as opening acts will be the amazing voice of Irene Diaz and Texan singer song writer David Garza.
