A Band of Bitches

A Band Of Bitches (ABOB) features an eclectic sound which they describe as Soft Porn Rock, and on their first release we hear everything from mambo to banda norteña and even acid jazz.

Consisting of 6 members (Ushka, Fex, Fuk Dude, Faceless Bastard, DWA and Pace), ABOB present themselves as a society that has endured centuries, whose origins are uncertain and who may have possible extraterrestrial connections, having also been directly infiltrated by great historical leaders from the last century, some of whom may have been responsible for catastrophes and reigns of terror.

Having set the tone of being a secret society with plans to control the world order, ABOB celebrates their nomination for the 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards as Best New Artist of the year.

To learn more about the band, the Grammy nomination and the whole concept surrounding ABOB, we spoke with the creator of the project, Ushka.

How do you feel about the Grammy nomination for Best New Artist?

We are very excited as this is a very prestigious award and it is an honor to be recognized amongst the best new artists and it motivates us to keep working hard.

Tell us about the name of the album, “The Pre End Of The World Soundtrack”

The name of the album, like other song titles in the album, are all based on satire based on all the excitement going on about the end of the world last year.  I thought the whole thing was quite funny and we decided to make a parody of it and poke fun at it.

How did you come up with the musical concept for the album?

When I sat down to write the album, there was no band, there were no plans for playing it live, it was just a musical project I had running through my head for quite some time and I just wanted to put it down without any plans of releasing it as we did not have a record company.  In the end, the album turned out to be what I had imagined, something very eclectic with all kinds of songs designed to get people dancing.

Is it possible to describe a band like ABOB?

I think we are band the pokes fun at the mysterious and glamour.  We are a band with a very dark sense of humor.

Besides the sense of humor and, in part, the cynicism, what are other influences or inspirations for ABOB?

In the visual part and the characters we’ve created, I would have to say we are influenced by Kiss, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein and other shock rock bands.  Musically we have a lot of influences that go from Mano Negra to the Beastie Boys, traditional music to world beat, jazz and any other music we come in contact with.
