enanitos verdes tic tacMarking the band’s 15th album of their career, legendary Argentine rock band, Enanitos Verdes, releases Tic Tac, an album that breaks the seven-year hiatus that Marciano Cantero (bass, vocals), Felipe Staiti (guitars), and Jota Morelli (drums) took from the recording studio.

Unlike many of its musician counterparts that also rose during the 80’s Spanish rock phenomenon, Enanintos Verdes has constantly toured and recorded new music, which is why to many fans, it was no surprise to hear of the new album release. “Anticipation”, I think, best describes the feeling most fans were feeling as the albums’ April 2nd release drew nearer.

Out now, the album was recorded in Los Angeles by multi-Grammy winner Gustavo Borner and features collaborations with Ruy Folguera on string arrangements, Lee Thornburg on trumpet and trombone, and percussionist Jose “Papo” Rodriguez. The biggest surprise of the album, however, is the special appearance of Mexican pop singer Cristian Castro on the album’s “Besos Violentos” track.

Highlights in the album are “No Me Dejen Caer”, which starts off as a subtle ballad before taking off with a guitar-heavy assault, “Besos Violentos” is also a pleasant surprise with its classic Enanitos guitar sounds reminiscent of “Derribando Sueños” from the band’s third studio album, Habitaciones extrañas.

Rightfully so, guitarrist Felipe Staiti refers to the album as a tribute to the golden age of Argentine rock, because if anything, Tic Tac has more of a “back to basics” sound with slashing guitars reminiscent of their earlier work when Enanitos embraced the beauty of garage band-making music.

The album is available now.
