De Lux is quickly absorbing fans into their disco-funk time machine! The absorption didn’t cease when Public radio station KCRW and Innovative Leisure brought the Do-Over at The Hammer Museum on Thursday, July 11th, 2014
Along with recently invited guests, De Lux is primarily comprised of longtime friends and musical wizards Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco. At their young age, vocalist Sean, and bassist Isaac, are also multi-instrumentalists who combine their writing skills and extensive musical knowledge of classic and obscure disco.
With influences from American dance band LCD Soundsystem, and British electronic band Hot Chip, De Lux have resurrected an eclectic sound that will rocket you through multiple decades. After partnering up with Scion AV to present a new EP in late 2013, then releasing their full album Voyage in April 2014, the band has recently toured and even delivered their funky tunes to cities in Europe.
The crowd overflowed the entrance of The Hammer Museum and the line fringed around the corner with anxious fans ready to watch this electric duo. After reaching maximum capacity at the Hammer Museum, those who were fortunate to get in strutted through the chic central courtyard to grab a quick drink, claim their spot amongst the dense crowd and dance the night away.
De Lux entered the stage and fed their fans a full serving of post-disco/punk and electronic sounds. Initial funk-filled songs like “Sometimes Your Friends Are Not Your Friends” and “Thirty” were a solid warm up for their lead track “Better at Making Time,” which fans excitedly welcomed. With no two songs sounding alike, the crowd was kept bouncing on their dancing toes under the moonlight.
De Lux flared through Psychedelic Furs and channeled Gary Newman through “Love Is a Phase,” and baffled the audience with lyrics like “Trust your brain cause your heart is nothing but blood.”
They transported themselves and the crowd from to the early 1980s and back to 2014 all in one night and lamentably left the stage with the very vivacious tunes of “It All Works All The Time.”
De Lux has been listed on LA Weekly’s “10 L.A. Band Who Will Blow Up in 2014” and they are clearly living up to their reputation as being one of the hottest new electronic acts on stage. Step into their time machine and enjoy!
Voyage is available for downloading on iTunes and available for streaming on Spotify.
You can catch De Lux on stage at the Echo Park Rising Festival on August 15-17.
