“El Rebelde del Acordeón” (The Accordion Rebel), Celso Piña, will be hitting California on a short tour beginning in Santa Cruz, followed by Modesto, Oxnard and ending at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana this coming Sunday, February 16th.
Celso Piña began his musical career in his native Monterrey 30 years ago and although he had a healthy following in the cumbia and vallenato dance circuits, Celso was not very well known outside of that circle until rockers like El Gran Silencio, Café Tacuba, Control Machete, Blanquito Man and others began to invite him to collaborate on different projects and Celso’s talent and music was finally given the recognition it deserved.
Celso Piña has recorded over 28 albums in which Celso has combined different types of musical influences. While using tropical rhythms as a base, Celso has combined son, hip-hop, vallenato, blues, rock, rumba, danzón, cumbia and bolero.
The music of Celso Piña, at one time was marginalized and deemed synonymous with gangs by the musical elite, but now Celso and his music are known worldwide and Celso Piña has become a great inspiration to many artists who have either collaborated with him or have covered his songs, like Enrique Bunbury, Lila Downs, Julieta Venegas, Ely Guerra, Sargento Garcia and many more.
Last year, Celso Piña was the subject of a biographical documentary, “Celso Piña: El Rebelde del Acordeon (Celso Piña: The Accordion Rebel)”, which was presented at the Hola Mexico Film Festival in Los Angeles. The documentary follows Celso from his beginnings all the way to his present success.
For his performance at The Constellation Room, Celso Piña will be joined by special guests, Salvadorian band, Frigüey.
