Just like American Idol, apparently the other gift that keeps on giving viene directo de la Madre Patria por cortesía del reality show “Operación Triunfo”. Una egresada más de este reality has proven to launch some prolific music careers to many. In an era where reality-tv-made celebutards fizzle out way before their appointed fifteen minutes of fame are over, making it to a third album is quite an accomplishment.
Vega proves herself as a talented, genuine and contemporary singer songwriter. With the release of her third album “Metamorfosis”, Vega claims a place in the Spanish music charts, and sets her eyes on internationalization. Even though she kinda sticks to the same style singer/songwriters tend to veer to, Vega keeps things fresh and suave while still having an edge and ultimately letting her star power shine through.
Mercedes Miguel Carpio, a.k.a. Vega, plays with the singer/ songwriter/ and pop/rock formula in a way that makes her music quite addictive and radio friendly without selling out and being total Top 40 pop rubbish.
With a style reminiscent of La Oreja de Van Gogh and La Quinta Estación, Vega’s “Metamorfosis” is a well done album that mixes rock/ pop, 60’s Brit pop, with bouncy and positive lyrics without coming off as girly and cheesy… the ladies and the gays will fall in love with Vega… heck, even some of the guys might like her jams… if not, they can always fall for her since she’s a definite hottie.
