Even though the movie “Rudo y Cursi” is still to be released on this side of the border, ever since its early filming stages, it created a fair amount of buzz thanks to its cast: it marked the reunion of the charolastras Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna. Even though it has nothing to do with “Y Tu Mamá También”, in this film by Carlos Cuarón (nada más y nada menos que Alfonso Cuarón’s bro), the chemistry between Gael and Diego is as strong and explosive as it’s always been. This dramedy about two bros trying to make it in the world of fútbol comes with a double disk soundtrack that will blow your mind. Without any doubt or second thoughts, se convertirá en uno de tus favoritos, “Rudo y Curi” está de poca mother.
Rudo y Cursi
Music and film go hand in hand and are as inseparable as rock stars and booze/ drugs. You can’t really have one without the other. The music helps set the tone of the movie, helps for dramatic effect or if the movie sucks, it wakes up the audience.
“Rudo y Cursi” scored a hell of a soundtrack. The soundtrack is divided into two parts- the “Rudo” disc and the “Cursi” disc.
While both of them are filled with unexpected suprises, the “Rudo” disc is the main course. There are familiar names and some new comers que te dejarán con el ojo cuadrado. Echale un vistaso a las rolas por Juana Molina, Devendra Banhart, Nortec, The Black Lips, Instituto Mexicano del Sonido featuring Saul Hernandez and a very energetic homage to Chep Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me” by Los Odio featuring Juan Son.
The “Cursi” disc is filled with tunka tunka jams and lots of cumbias courtesy of Banda Machos, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Banda El Recodo, La Sonora Dinamita, Amandititita, and even Gael Garcia, among others.
