The wait is finally over as Natalia Lafourcade’s long awaited third album sees the light. While the wait was rather long and many even questioned whether Lafourcade had fallen into oblivion, la espera valió la pena. If you were expecting a more poppy and commercial Natalia Lafourcade, you’re in for a hell of a disappointment… if anything, la chaparrita ha tomado el camino opuesto, delivering with “Hu Hu Hu” a more alternative, eclectic, and wholesome sound. In an era where urban pop, punchis punchis, over processed jams and intricate production trickery are taking over the radio, Natalia Lafourcade doesn’t follow any trends y sigue su propio camino… y lo más chido es que ella te invita a ser parte de su mundo. The sooner you get over the fact “Hu Hu Hu” took forever and a half in the making, the sooner you’ll start appreciating the overall result, which undeniably makes it the best Natalia Lafourcade album and one of the most ambitious musical projects to hit the scene this year.
For starters, you’ll get to listen to Natalia Lafourcade cantando en Inglés… y por si fuera poco, there are two collaborations, both of them by completely different artists, yet both coherent to the album’s theme and flow. The title track “Hu Hu Hu” features none other than Julieta Venegas- this particular song will take many down memory lane and reminisce of pre-Sí Julieta.
Also, Juan Son has a cameo on the closing track “Look Outside”, y la neta que there is no better way to end such a unique and fresh album than with this fabulous collab… indeed, “Hu Hu Hu” cierra con broche de oro.
Definitivamente Natalia Lafourcade se sacó un diez con “Hu Hu Hu”. It’s seriously one of the must have albums of the year.
