Although this is only the bands sophomore album in their entire 10 year run as an angeleno ska band, it just may be the bands musical resume- on CD that is. The album was released this year marking the bands 10 year anniversary.
Cumbias, boleros, ska, rock, vallenato, requinto and reggae is all fused in this 13 track album. “Miercoles de Ceniza” exemplifies and incorporates the various elements that this band dominates. Beginning with hard core rock guitar riffs before transitioning into a volume bearing trumpet solo, the song also incorporates Bolero-ish tunes that transcends the listener from a dainty garage gig to the romantic eras of the 1930’s when boleros were first introduced to the US.
“Madrecita” is a whole-hearted letter of appreciation to mothers all around. Sung in his twilight, deep, melancholy voice, George carries the tune that transcends you to the 50’s era where heart felt songs that were cranked out of the car stereo gave reason to make out with your kitten all night long.
Best if listened to when in need for a good, varied musical album while writing a 10 page paper-or, on a lonely night when Jose Cuervo is the only friend around to mend your broken heart.
