If we didn’t know any better, at first listen we’d be quick to think that Snow White left her cottage deep in the woods and fast-forwarded to modern day as lead singer of Indie band, Babaluca. But… we know better.
The trio, fronted by songstress/keyboardist Carla Morrison, is relatively new to the indie scene and is backed by an honest and satisfying EP that teases music aficionados in a pure and sensuous way. Alternating sets on drums and guitar, members Nicolas Kizer and Niki Petta support Carla’s sultry voice with melodic and refreshing riffs and beats. The trio vividly colors all of the seasons of love both musically and lyrically. Admiration, love, sensuality, vulnerability and heartache are all brought to life in this their first attempt towards musical recognition. Atop a melodic pop beat, “Que bonito estas” proudly introduces the 6-track self-titled EP with a playful confession of admiration towards a crush. With that same honest and capricious voice, Babaluca then takes us into an even more whimsical environment with “By your side” and “Because of you” and wraps it all up with a vulnerable “Spain” that lays as the only track on the EP where the harmonica makes its grandiose appearance.
“Babaluca” is recommended when heartbroken, in love, or when your work-day consists of ascending into the clouds and day-dreaming of lovelies.
