If you were to describe this Dutch singer’s style in one sentence: rock with pop undertones with lots of soul. Aunque no es conocida en esta lado del charco, she’s no newbie to the music biz… as a matter of fact, “For Bitter or Worse” is Anouk’s sixth album. Her most powerful weapon is her voice, and in this album it’s showcased to the max… it’s definitely the star of the show. Her voice is crisp, strong, and oh so very soulful y llena de sentimiento. Even though there’s nothing innovative in her music, the mix of rock, pop, soul, and a little bit of ‘70s funk works to perfection with her voice. “For Bitter or Worse” está lleno de canciones pa’ cortarse las venas con un bolillo or to just chill while hanging out with your buddies Patrón, Jack, and Mr. Grey Gooose… tiene canciones de amor, desamor, and the required girl power anthem que no puede faltar en el disco de most female, singer/ songwriters. “For Bitte or Worse” es solo una probadita de lo que Anouk tiene para ofrecer… and trust, it’s all good.
The album is aptly titled, and Anouk sticks to the empowering theme throgougt the twelve songs without dropping her character once. With “For Bitter or Worse” Anouk makes quite the statement and takes a stand against all kinds of violence: ya sea verbal, física o emocional… in Anouks worlds there’s no room for that shit, and she wants you to know that there shouldn’t be room for that kind of shit in yours either.
