Bomba estéreo Concert Fiesta

One of the most progressive acts to emerge from Colombia, Bomba Estéreo, is taking the music world by storm in 2015. The band fronted by singer Liliana Saumet and multi-instrumentalist Simon Mejía has been busy putting the finishing touches on their new album – due June 2 – while performing at key music festivals in the United States and abroad.

On March 13, they rocked the Vive Latino stage in Mexico City, followed by three electrifying sets at SXSW (Radio Day Stage, Pop Montreal Showcase, and SBS Showcase on March 18, 19, and 20, respectively). Bomba Estéreo is no stranger to music festivals, having traversed the globe to play at Roskilde, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Vive Latino, Estereopicnic, Rock al Parque, Glastonbury, among many others.

The first single off the new album, “Fiesta,” released March 10th, is a party anthem dripping with bass and champeta rhythms – an homage to the carnivals of their native Colombia. Ricky Reed of the Oakland hip-hop/pop collective Wallpaper produced the track, in addition to the rest of the 10-track album.

Simón teases what fans can expect from Bomba’s upcoming studio album (their fourth): “The band is known for the fusion of tropical music with other sounds. What we wanted to do now was change the color scheme a bit while keeping the essence of that Bomba Estéreo sound. It’s a more electronic-sounding album, with more sung melodies, and a more global approach.”

To celebrate the release of their new album, Bomba Estéreo will play a show on June 6 at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, the city in which they recorded a big part of the album with Reed. The band will be supporting the album throughout the year with tour dates in Latin America, Europe, and United States to be announced soon.
