Sussie 4

One of the musical genres that is always defying the norm and expanding the barriers of conventionalism is electronic music.

Ever since its arrival to the music scene, bits and pieces of it have been taken apart to add to other styles, whether it’s rock, pop, or even world music. Lately, the Alterlatina music scene has seen the birth of many bands specializing in electronica. In the era of “Nopal Beat” and “Nortec”, bands like Sussie 4 attempt to redefine the genre by putting in more than beats and establishing a unique style and sound.

In the music industry, it’s very hard to re-define a genre or to even stand out from the bunch. Bands can either try something radically different (with a high risk of failure), put a great act together, or both. Having a great live show is imperative nowadays, thanks to the tons of people affected with A.D.D.

Few bands can do more than just play a set. Yes, they might sound great, but performance quality is what counts. We’ve known for quite some time that CD sales are experiencing a steady decline in sales, so the only way for an artist to make it is through shows and merchandising. Sussie 4 is one of those bands that blow your mind and keep you wanting more.

Although Sussie 4 was formed in 1997, they have only released two albums: “Música Moderna” (2002), and “The Red Album” (2006). Their first album was only released in Mexico, the U.S. and France; however, thanks to some of the compilation records they have been part of, their music has been able to reach as far as Australia and Japan.
It’s because of their energetic and strong performance quality that Sussie 4 has managed to perform next to internationally renowned electronica musicians such as: Gus Gus, Massive Attack, Deep Dish, and Buscemi, among others. Their hard work and talent has been recognized by many, allowing them the opportunity to perform in various festivals around the globe, including: Vive Latino, Techno Geist, Playa MTV in Mexico, Panamá Fest in Panamá, Rock al Parque in Colombia, Espárrago in Spain, and many more at a local level.

For their self produced sophomore album, Sussie 4 proved what everybody is always preaching: “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. After being involved in a life-threatening accident, they took a break from the limelight but kept working on their music in spite of the circumstances and the problems with their record label. In order to capture the emotion and the intensity of what they had just gone through, Sussie 4 decided to use the title “The Red Album”. For this album, several musicians contributed with their many talents- produced by Sacha Triujeque and with the vocals of Alex Sergi from Miranda!, León Larregui from Zoé, Jorge González from Los Prisioneros, Elisa Valenzuela and Valentina González.

Sussie 4 will show the Southern California crowd why they were named “Best Live Act” on the DJ and Clubbing Awards, by doing their thing at Al Borde’s Rock ‘N Bliss best of 2007 fest at the Ford Amphitheatre on October 12, 2007.
