El Tri

“Ella existió…” accompanied by the voice that is uniquely that of Alex Lora, lead singer of Mexican rock legend El Tri, is enough to send chills running down your spine. Classic and timeless, El Tri- originally known as “Three Souls in my Mind” but was nicknamed El Tri by its fans- has captured the hearts and respect of four decades worth of rock aficionados.

Composed by Alex Lora, wife Chela Lola, Lalo Chico, Ramon Perez, Charly, Rafael Salgado, Lalo Toral and Oscar Zarate, the music of El Tri can best be described as the voice of rockeros all throughout Latin America . The poetic lyrics of their songs speak about poverty and political injustices occurring in Mexico, and are accompanied by guitar riffs and Loras’ raspy and unique voice.

What began in the 1960’s as an English rock band had transformed by 1985 into a pioneering Spanish rock band that made history by receiving the first gold album ever given to a rock band in Mexico. Their biggest single “Triste Canción de Amor” which was from the “Simplemente” album, was heard all throughout Latin America and to this day is considered one of the pioneering classic rock songs of all times.

Having toured all over the world and releasing over 22 albums under the name “El Tri”, the band has left its imprint on fans of all social levels. In 2002 and before the eyes of nearly 300,000 fans, frontman Alex Lora was honored with the privilege of being the first rock musician ever invited to serenade the Virgin Mary at the Básilica de Guadalupe in Mexico City.

Amongst other honorary titles, the band’s lead singer, Alex Lora, was named distinguished citizen in his native Puebla and has been honored with statuesque replicas in Guadalajara, Mexico and another in the city of Los Angles, California. In 2002, November 10th was proclaimed as “El Día de Alex Lora” in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2002.

Having shared the stage with rock legends like The Cult, Ramones, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, and having set foot on monumental stages such as the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, Verizon Amphitheatre and Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California, at the Roseland in New York, Anfiteatro Nacional in Chicago, and stages all over Latin America, “El Tri” has in fact remained the voice for the people. The band has held various benefit concerts with proceeds going towards programs that help feed homeless children and handicapped people in Mexico. In an effort to provide wheelchairs to the impaired, Lora helped raise money to donate over 1,000 wheelchairs and has donated numerous trees to be planted in impoverished cities in several parts of Latin America.

The band has been nominated numerous times for a Grammy award and has been honored in places all over the world. Nonetheless, their heartfelt responsibility to
its fans has remained at the top of their priority list, as has been proven through four decades of non-stop album releases and endless acts of charity.

In 1999, the band set out on a new venture documenting two years of their shows and gigs all over the world. The documentary titled “Alex Lora Esclavo del Rocanrol” was his wife’s way of leaving a documentation of her husbands musical achievements.

With over 40 years of heart throbbing, pulse pacing, chill sending and hard core rock en español music to fall back on, El Tri has transcended through generations of rockeros from all over the world. They’ve created the classic Spanish rock wave that modern musicians ride today and have achieved the recognition and respect that many artists achieve“…Solo en un Sueño”(only in a dream).
