Bolivian singer/song writer, Jose Mrocheck, the man and brain behind his project Avionica,  visited Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago to talk about his new single, “Instinto Animal”, and his upcoming album and we had the opportunity to chat with him about his music and plans for the future.

Al Borde (AB) Tell us about the first single of this new project, “Instinto Animal”.

Avionica – For the first single, “Instinto Animal”, I wanted to go for a more electronic sound, and even a little more pop.  It has a lot of 80’s pop music with synthesizers and electronic beats, perhaps a throwback to the early days of Depeche Mode and other bands like them, and I just wanted to change things up a bit.

Avionica - Instinto AnimalAB – I understand this first single was a sort of a team effort.

Avionica – Yes, in fact the beat and chord progression came from Andrés Saavedra.  He came up with it during recording sessions, he showed it to me and I added a melody and chorus and the lyrics came out of the same process of creating the melody.

AB – Besides the single, you have also released a video to accompany it, tell us about the video.

Avionica – The album was filmed in Toronto and the art, photography, production and direction was done by Taylor Fox and Christian Bielz who are well recognized in the business.  The concept of the video was based on a visual metaphor in which UV lights and body paint are an important part of the imagination and creativity in creating mini stories during a party scene in which the characters are part of a seductive game.

AB – Can we expect to hear a more electronic sound throughout the new album?

Avionica – Yes, in fact, during the recording process we didn’t have an actual drummer, we created electronic drum tracks which were used in all the songs and a lot of the arrangements were done in the final production process, but at the same time, the songs still have a very human element to them, and I am sure when we play them live, it will have even more of that human feel to them.

AB: Do you have plans playing any live shows in the U.S. and particularly in L.A.?

Avionica – Yes, we are working out the details, and we definitely are eager to bring our music and playing live, especially in L.A. which is such an important city for music.
