This summer, LeBron James will rock a pair of the recently unveiled, digitally embedded Nike Hyperdunk+ footgear. With four pressure sensors and an accelerometer that records distance, steps and jump height, the gear will allow “King James” to monitor his activity levels through an app, ultimately allowing him to see where he needs to up his game.
Best of all, you can do this, too. It’s all part of the Nike+ Basketball and Nike+ Training apps for the iPhone, iPod touch and web, which- when synced with the Nike Hyperdunk+ footwear, transmit data of your workout activity wirelessly to your iPhone or iPod touch so you can then analyze it and see where you need to improve.
The Nike+ Training includes athlete drill packs that were created following the workout regimen of some of the top athletes in the world like Shawn Johnson, LeBron James and Hope Solo. Word on the street is that there’s a drill pack in the works with Mexican soccer player “El Chicharrito”. You heard it hear first.
The workouts run between 10-15 minutes long and appear on your screen, making them easy to follow and know what exercise to do next. Depending on your athletic ability, you can choose from beginning, intermediate or intense workouts.
And of course, there’s also a social media factor. Aside from being able to compare your stats with fellow users, the app has a “showcase” mode that allows users to record video of their movements for immediate Web upload.
Recently, I had the opportunity to try out the shoes at an event that took place at the Nike Vault. There, I competed with other attendees trying out one of the workouts. I also had the chance to speak with a NIKE Ekin (that’s NIKE spelled backwards) to get more info on the latest Nike technology. Video of that to come.
Available now, the Nike Hyperdunk+ runs for about $250 and the Nike+ Training for $235 for men/ $220 for women. The new footwear and apps are available in retail locations and in the App Store.
