The Nike+ FuelBand is the latest innovation from Nike, in which time, calories, and steps are transformed into Nike’s own geometric: fuel, to measure your activity.
The Nike Fuel Band is a band that feels more like a sports watch than a wristband. It’s a small, black band that at a press of a button displays the count of your movements in LED lights. Underneath the fuel display is a row of LED lights that change from green, yellow, orange to red to show how close you are to reaching your daily activity goal, which you preset by connecting your Band to your computer and by setting it up through the Nike+ website.
For individuals that like to beat their own record, set their own pace or need a reminder to get up and do something active, the Nike+ FuelBand is ideal considering that by creating a profile on the Nike+ website, users can track their history of activity and modify their exercise routine. And since checking whether or not you’re reaching your daily fuel is easily done with a push of a button, the band can serve as a reminder to do some sort of physical activity in order to meet your daily goal.
A draw back to the band is that it lacks to measure resistance or lower body movements where the wrist is not in movement. Therefore, this serves best for running, dancing, skipping, boxing, etc.
The FuelBand, which runs for $149.99, sold out in the first eight days, but is available now. Its water resistance will allow it to survive showers, but not nose-dives in a pool.
