On Wednesday, Dec. 5th, iconic tattoo artist and muralist Mister Cartoon revealed his exclusive mural design for the upcoming film “Gangster Squad”, a crime film that chronicles the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.
The billboard is housed at the Platinum Motorsport’s wall on the Sunset Strip and will remain through January 2013. A 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe customized by Mister Cartoon and inspired by the film will be traveling to additional locations throughout the country in promotion of “Gangster Squad”.
Based on “Tales from the Gangster Squad” by Paul Lieberman, the film stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Peña. With the scenery set in Los Angeles circa 1949, “Gangster Squad” follows a secret LAPD crew in their quest to bring down Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen’s (Sean Penn) plan to spread his reign from coast to coast.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Will Beall, the Warner Bros. Pictures film is set to hit theaters on January 11, 2012.
