ImageShrinky dinks and what nots have met mod fashion. Inspired by life, culture, friends and music KidViskous Jewelry created by Tiffany Lee has evolved and transformed into one of the coolest and most original jewelry lines of the moment. Earrings and necklaces make up most of the designs, but as simple as that may sound, its the design concepts and materials used to make the jewelry that make them all the more unforgettable.

Like syrup, or glue

Inspired by the Sex Pistol’s bass player Sid Vicious, Tiffany’s jewelry creations were first branded under the name “Kid Vicious”. However, the name only lasted 4 days long after designer/creator Tiffany discovered that the name was already worn-out by many punk-cyber kids. “I then changed it to “Kid Viscous”, which is a play on Kid Vicious, viscous meaning “the property of resistance to flow in a fluid or semi fluid”, like syrup, or glue,” states Tiffany. But even that didn’t stick. After the frustration of having to correct people’s pronunciation of her jewelry line, Tiffany removed the spacing between letters and came up with “KidViskous”.

Tools of Choice: Lucite and Music

Image But coming up with her design concepts didn’t result as difficult as coming up with a brand name. Tiffany, who as a child sold her hand-made accessories at the local pool, has never had a problem with being inspired. “A lot of my stylistic choices are the result of musical inspiration,” states Tiffany who has also admitted to being a huge rock-aholic. “My first collection was totally rock n roll, my second was softer, more folk and indie pop and my current collection is directly the result of being inspired by the new-rave explosion of last year” she states. Her neon colored designs have taken the form of visor-sunglasses, rosaries and hoop earrings, to name a few. But it is the use of Lucite, a material that has properties of both plastic and glass, that have given these designs a whole new meaning. “Lucite provides the perfect medium for making jewelry since it has the ability to have images carved into it,” states Tiffany “It’s definitely more presentable with it’s selection of styles and colors, and for a lack of a better word, is much nicer.” Its mirror-like surface provides not only a cool-looking accessory, but it also serves as an emergency mirror for on the go, an added bonus that has kept ladies surfing the KidViskous Web site.

Word-of-Mouth

“I haven’t even released the current collection for retail sale yet but to date, it has received the most press,” states Tiffany. KidViskous jewelry has been used for indie fashion shows and has been profiled in various photo shoots. Most recently, “Intersection” and lingerie line “Don’t Tell” have turned to Tiffany in hopes that she accessorizes their models.

More to Come

Image Although Tiffany’s full-time job doesn’t allow for her to spend more time on her designs, she assures us that more is still in store. “I definitely want to transition into traditional precious metals at some point,” she states “whenever that’s financially tangible for me!” Whether she continues to work with Lucite or moves on to other materials, her design concepts and creations will continue being as sporadic as every other fashion trend. But as Tiffany has proven with her new-rave and disco designs, no matter what fad kicks in, her imagination is always up for the challenge. “If I see a cool piece of artwork, a new band, a movie, a location, anything that inspires me,” she says “I’ll start brainstorming and when the mood strikes…I’ll produce something.” What exactly that “something” is only Tiffany and time will tell.
