The Basics:  “The Vanguard” is one of those L.A. nightclubs that have managed to survive years of clubbing, the coming and going of trends and generations.  At one point during the 90’s and still early in the millennium, “The Vanguard” was a well known hot-spot, the “it” place to be not only for club goers and party monsters, but also for A-list celebrities. As almost every nightclub in Los Angeles, with time “The Vanguard” has come to lose much of its hype; however, it has still managed to hold on to its “lofty” status thanks to its decor and major DJs spinning at least once a week.

If you haven’t been to “The Vanguard” before, it’s definitely one of those clubs that you have to go at least once- even if it’s just to check it out.  While it’s your typical L.A. warehouse-turned-nightclub, once you’re inside you’ll see that it is indeed a beautiful nightclub- great décor: modern and über chic.

Just like “The Avalon”, this club is known for hosting big-time DJs like Armin Van Buuren, Felix Da House Cat, and Tiësto, among others.

Over the years “The Vanguard” has evolved from Top 40 extravaganza to dance to rock and back to Top 40… nowadays they seem to have settled more on the dance/ electro side of the music spectrum.

Even if you’re not into that kind of music, the sound system and the state-of-the-art lighting will provide quite a show.  Fortunately for you, thanks to the fab ambiance, after a couple of drinks you’ll be digging that kind of music, even if it’s just for the night.

Although the club’s heyday is long gone, “The Vanguard” is still quite popular hence the ridiculously long lines to go in.

“The Vanguard” manages to stay alive perhaps thanks to the wave of nostalgic forty-somethings that refuse to let go of their inner party monster and still party like it was 1992- the only difference between then and now is that they have more than an extra decade on their shoulders and that now they can all afford all the ridiculously pricey drinks they want to consume without messing up their budget.  Come on now, $18 for an apple martini that seems to be all apple and no martini?!

Overall, “The Vanguard” is an okay place to party; however, as appealing and cool as it might seem, there is no denying in the fact that this place is not half of what it used to be- at least that’s what we heard from several loyal club-goers.   Now if you’re into older guys or girls, you’ll be in singleton heaven.
