“The Trails”: The perfect mid workout eatery

the trailsEven though the summer is about go bye-bye, it doesn’t mean you don’t have to care about working on your fitness anymore… if anything, working out will be much more pleasant ya que se aplaque este calor infernal. So if you don’t have a gym membership, and even if you do, it’s always nice to take a hike or a nice jog outdoors. A nice place to do so is the Griffith Park area, ya que además de tener acceso al observatorio, you get a gorgeous view. So if you find yourself starving in the middle of Griffith Park after a good hike/ run, don’t screw up the exercise you just did by eating a giganto MacMeal, instead head over to “The Trails”, a little gourmet snack shack right inside the park about a quarter of a mile past the entrance where you can have a nice meal amid trees. It’s not every day that you get to eat at a joint with a bohemian vibe in a natural environment.

La Comida

Since it’s such a small joint, the menu at “The Trails” is rather limited. You’ll find sandwiches, waffles, snake dogs, and baked goods.

Aunque parezca poco, after a workout, you don’t really need anything else but a nice healthy and hearty meal.

Cabe mencionar que toda la comida (and even the coffee) en “The Trails” es orgánica and very vegetarian/ vegan friendly… so even the pastries and other tasty goodies manage to be healthy.

Si aun es tempra o simplemente quieres algo light, their granola is the bomb. This homemade granola comes with nuts, blueberries, strawberries, elderberries, and soy milk.

Now if you worked out like there was no tomorrow y tienes un hambre de los mil demonios that could easily make you chase one of them squirrels, sprinkle some ketchup and eat them up, that’s a clear sign you need a sandwich.

The avocado sandwich at this joint is not only its most popular item, but it’s also its tastiest.  It has big chunks of avocado on whole wheat bread with alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, cheese, and soy bacon bits.

You could also go for the tomato and goat cheese tarts- which come with rosemary, a bit of garlic, salt, pepper, goat cheese, and tomato slices on a savory puff pastry.

Having dessert is almost inevitable, so you can get your sugar fix with one of their famous lavender & vanilla cookies, which are simply delicious.

They also have a decent selection of homemade organic pies, pero la neta aunque están deliciosos, if you just worked out, it kinda defeats the whole purpose of it, so just grab a cookie and call it a day.

“The Trails” está padrisimo para comer después de hacer un poco de ejercicio. Eating on picnic tables under a canopy not only is it peaceful, but lovely as well… además, the eye candy está de pelos.
